History

K-1 was started back in 1969. At the end of the school year, half of the fish in Company C-2 were told that they would become a part of a new outfit when they returned as sophomores in the fall. As disappointed as they may have been, they didn't show it. Lt. Mark Wilson '72 was one of these freshmen and he and his buddies met in his garage in Pasadena, Texas, to create a new outfit in the summer of '69. This outfit would ultimately become Company K-1, also known as Kayo-K or "Knock-Out K". K-1 was predominately made up of engineering majors and as such, the Army Corps of Engineers' castle insignia was used to create the outfit logo, along with the Army mascot, the mule.
As most of the memebers of K-1 were engineering majors, K-1 would go on to become heavily involved in the tradition of Bonfire, becoming a long-time stacking unit. In fact, K-1 dominated the building of Bonfire in the 90's being Centerpole Oufit in '96 - the top Bonfire oufit - and Perimeter Pole in '92 and '97.
K-1 has had a long history of being one of the toughest outfits on the Quad. We truly believe that the most challenging freshman year will produce the most able leaders for the future and our record shows it! See for yourself on the Current and Former K-1 Fighters page!
