Academics
"Students first, cadets second."

The pursuit of academic excellence is Company K-1's highest priority. Being in K-1 will teach you many skills and give the opportunities to excel in leadership; however, none of these matters unless you can balance your Corps life with your life as a student.
K-1 is a non-technical major unit. This means we primarily deal with Liberal Arts, Business and the Social Sciences. However, if you are interested in joining K-1, but are interested in technical major such as the Sciences or Engineering, you can still join K-1, but you must join as a "General Studies" major. To some, this may seem like a bad idea, however, many students come into Texas A&M as General Studies majors and it is not uncommon for students to change their majors.
*The Academic Big Brother Program*
When you come to Company K-1, every freshman will be paired with a junior or senior cadet of a similar major. This upperclassmen is known as an "Academic Big Brother" and will monitor your academics, review for tests, proof read papers and offer help with any questions/concerns you may have about your classes. This policy has been very fruitful in the past and we look forward to its continued success.
O.R. Simpson Honor Society
Many K-1 upperclassmen have been actively involved with the Corps Honor Society, O.R. Simpson, which includes maintaining a Corps study room as well as mentoring to underclassmen. If an upperclassmen in K-1 can't help you, we can make sure that an O.R. Simpson member gets assigned to monitor your academic progress. These mentors are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
